It's time for another Taylor Swift "Midnights" inspired mocktail! This will be forever known as the Maroon Mocktail. As I will not be attending the Eras Tour until the end of July it is important that I find a creative outlet to aid in the management of my excitement levels. This mocktail series is that creative outlet. Orange-pomegranate flavor accompanied by fresh thyme and no alcohol, this mocktail will not leave you wondering how you got down on the floor.
Maroon Mocktail Ingredients
- Pomegranate Juice: For this recipe you will want to look for unsweetened pomegranate juice as this will allow you to better control the sweetness level in your mocktail. It also typically has a fresher taste and deeper flavor pungency.
- Orange Juice: Any OJ will do here! You can buy a carton at the store or squeeze it yourself. Whatever floats your boat.
- Agave Nectar: Agave nectar will be the sweetener in our drink. Also known as maguey syrup or agave syrup, it is produced from several species of agave. You can usually find it in the baking aisle (or syrup section) of your grocery store but if not you can order it online. If you don't like a sweet drink you can omit it from the recipe.
- Orange Peel + Thyme Sprigs: You will be adding these items to your cocktail shaker prior to the shake up. During the shake, the oils from the orange peel and thyme leaves will diffuse into your drink adding freshness. They also make a nice garnish.
- Sparkling Water: You will be using sparkling water to top the contents of your mocktails after they have been poured into the glasses of your choice. For this drink I prefer plain or orange-flavored sparkling water but use what you can find. Sparkling water is unsweetened. If you would like to use lemon-lime soda instead, omit the agave nectar.
Tips for Making the Mocktail
- For your Maroon Mocktail (and any other cocktail/mocktail you make in the future), it is a good idea to invest in a good cocktail shaker. Cheap ones can crack and leak all over the place when you go to shake up your drink. Don’t let this happen to you!
- Don't skimp on the garnishes! Even if you are just making this mocktail for yourself, garnish away. The additional fresh orange slices and pomegranate seeds really do make the experience all the more special. You can impress your guests OR give yourself a personal spa day.
