I'm not sure that anyone needed a new, fun way to drink sangría but here it is anyway! These Sangría Popsicles are infused with pineapple, orange and raspberry flavor and put an adult spin on a childhood favorite. Make these for a party, a bbq or do what I did and make them for yourself! I just left them in the molds in the freezer and popped one out anytime I was in the mood. Winning.

Sangría Popsicle Ingredients
- White Wine: When it comes to making sangría, I am a huge proponent of using the cheapest white wine available. As we are going to be mixing it with fruit, juice and other liquor I just don't see the point in wasting money on an expensive bottle. In all honesty, I used cheap cooking wine for this, so....yeah.
- Pineapple Juice: You can get pineapple juice at just about any grocery store now! I used a carton I found at Trader Joes. If you are having trouble finding it don't be afraid to use canned pineapple juice. You can even buy a couple cans of pineapple in juice and use the juice you strain from those.
- Simple Syrup: Simple syrup is a, you guessed it, syrup made up of sugar and water. It is made by combining equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan over the stove, dissolving the sugar and allowing the mixture to cool. It adds sweetness to cocktails (and sangría!) without affecting the flavor of the drink. Further instructions in recipe.
- Orange Liqueur: In recipes, orange liqueur can also be referred to as Triple Sec or Curaçao. While these are often confused as brands of orange liqueur, they are actually additional generic terms for the same ingredient. The most well-known brands of orange liqueur are Cointreau and Grand Marnier. When used in sangría and other cocktails, orange liqueur adds a nice punch of citrusy orange flavor without the falseness that typically accompanies an extract.
Steps for Making Sangría Popsicles
- Make the Simple Syrup: Start by making the simple syrup. In a small saucepan combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until mixture starts to bubble gently and sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes.
- Mix Juices: In a large pitcher combine white wine, pineapple juice, simple syrup and orange liqueur. Stir together and set aside.
- Add to Molds and Freeze: Scatter ½ of the raspberries into the bottom of your popsicle mold. Slide 1 orange slice into each mold. Top each popsicle with remaining raspberries. Pour sangria mixture over the fruit in each mold and fill them to the top. Insert your popsicle sticks into each individual mold. Place in freezer for 8 hours to overnight. Remove from freezer when ready to serve.
Tips for Making Sangría Popsicles
- This is a great make-ahead recipe! Given that the sangría popsicles need to freeze for 8 hours prior to serving, it might even be a must make-ahead recipe. Popsicles will keep sealed tightly in their molds for up to 2 weeks in the freezer so make them when it's most convenient for you.
- Simple syrup will last for up to 1 month in a tightly sealed container in the fridge. If you would like to make extra to have on hand for other recipes or cocktails it is very easy to do. Just remember that the sugar to water ratio is 1:1.
- If you don't have orange slices or raspberries (fresh or frozen) on hand no worries! Sangría is very versatile and these popsicles are no different. Mix in whatever fruit and berries you have on hand that sound best to you.
- Popsicle molds come in all shapes and sizes. Remember when you are picking one out that you will want it to be big enough to hold orange slices. Some can be a bit short.
- Fill your ice molds all the way to the top with liquid after you have dropped in your fruit. While they don't have to be perfect it is incredibly satisfying when you remove your popsicles from their molds and they are all uniform in size.
When and How to Serve Sangría Popsicles
While these popsicles are sweet, bright and colorful, you will obviously not be serving them to children. Freezing does not kill off the alcohol after all. I know it doesn't feel like it needs to be said but I swear I heard someone say that once.
These popsicles are a great, single-serve dessert for a girls' night, a bbq, a college graduation party or even a bachelorette shindig. Prepare them for your next event, big or small, and people are sure to ooo and ahhh all over them.
No matter where you serve these, please remember that they are FROZEN! Once removed from the freezer and their molds they are not long for this world. You want to pop them out and then immediately place them into the hands of those who will consume them.

How to Store Sangría Popsicles
Storing sangria popsicles is crucial to keeping them at their best quality. Here's how to store sangria popsicles effectively:
- Wrap or Cover: If the sangria popsicles are individually wrapped or in separate molds, make sure they are properly covered or wrapped. If they are in a single container, ensure the container has a lid or is tightly sealed.
- Stack Carefully: If you are stacking the popsicles, separate them with parchment paper or wax paper to prevent them from sticking together. This makes it easier to retrieve a single popsicle without damaging the others.
- Use an Airtight Container: Store the wrapped or unwrapped sangria popsicles in an airtight container. A container with a tight-sealing lid will help prevent freezer burn and ice crystals from forming.
- Freezer Placement: Place the airtight container of sangria popsicles in the coldest part of your freezer. Keep them away from items with strong odors, as popsicles can absorb these odors.
- Avoid Frost and Humidity: Ensure that the popsicles are well-protected from frost and humidity. This can be achieved by sealing the container securely and keeping the freezer door closed when not in use.
- Label and Date: Label the container with the date you made the sangria popsicles. This will help you keep track of their freshness and ensure you enjoy them within a reasonable timeframe.
- Check for Freezer Burn: Periodically inspect the popsicles for any signs of freezer burn. If you notice any, it's a good idea to consume or refresh them by dipping them in fresh sangria before refreezing.
- Individual Wrapping (Optional): If you're concerned about freezer burn, you can individually wrap each sangria popsicle in plastic wrap or parchment paper before placing them in the container.
- Serve in a Chilled Container: When you're ready to enjoy the sangria popsicles, serve them in a chilled container to prevent rapid melting.
By following these storage tips, you can keep your sangria popsicles in excellent condition, ensuring they remain a refreshing and delightful treat. Enjoy them whenever you need a cool, summery snack.
